• 12210-AMERICAN Dredging with 14yrd. clamshell ~ Alaska & California
Dredging at the port of Anchorage is Extreme !!! Tides are up to 36 foot and that’s twice a day. You have to pay close attention to the GPS monitor, which gives you accurate tide conditions. This info along with paint marks on the holding line cable allows you to adjust your digging depth ( which was about every half hour ), enabling you to keep a tolerance of 2 foot. As you can imagine, with all those markings on the cable it’s not easy .O, yea, the current at times ( 8.5 knots ) would drift the bucket (30,000# unloaded) 5 to 8 feet as you are going down for another bite, so that to you needed to compensate for.
